Antique Large Mahogany Library Mantel Clock with Bevelled Glass Panels by W & H

19th century
Description

Antique Large Mahogany Library Mantel Clock With Bevelled Glass Panels By W & H.

This lovely antique mantel clock has a mahogany case with an arched top. The case has a lovely moulding to the top front and side edges. The case then has four wonderful, carved, reeded columns to each corner. The case then has a fabulous, shaped, bevelled glass to the front as well as two bevelled glass panels to each side. The base of the case then has a fretwork panel and the clock is finished with a further moulding to the base as well as four thin feet.

The dial is then silvered and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The dial is then covered by a domed glass set into a brass bezel. Finally the dial has two nicely shaped hands.

The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It comes complete with its pendulum and key as is ticking away as it should. The movement is then “ting tang” and strikes one ting tang on the quarter past, two on the half past, three of the quarter to, and the number of hours on the hour via two gongs. Finally the movement is stamped “W&H SCH 4” to show that it was made by the famous German maker Winterhalder & Hofmeier.

It measures approximately:

- 18” / 45.5cm Tall.

- 13” / 33cm Wide.

- 8.5” / 21.5cm Deep.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
