Victorian Glass & Silver Scent Bottle By Mappin & Webb

A very pretty Victorian glass and silver Scent Bottle. The glass is beautifully cut around the body and has a star cut design on the base (see images). The silver lid is ornately embossed with flowers and scrolls and hinged on one side. When opened, reveals a lovely gilt wash . The original glass stopper fits perfectly (there is a chip to the top of the stopper which can be seen in the images). Hallmarks are clearly visible around the collar and inside the lid for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1897, Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and silver maker''s mark: Mappin & Webb (John Newton Mappin).
 
 
 
An exceptional scent bottle by a renowned maker; lovely cut glass and great proportions. It is a substantial heavy weight.
 
 
 
Condition: In lovely condition to both the glass and the silver with only the chip to the original stopper as mentioned.
