Victorian Silver Christening Cup Mug London 1896 Norman Marshall

Description

A late Victorian silver christening cup or mug with hallmarks for London 1896 and makers mark for Norman Marshall. There is a retailers stamps for Mappin & Webb London on the base. The cup shows considerable skill with a sloping fluted body base into which is placed an ornate cartouche or shield in the French style popular at the time. The shield is blank with no initials. The plain handle sits unobtrusively on the side. The mug has a beaded rim and is gilded inside, a mark of quality. In excellent condition.
