Art Deco Sterling Silver Tea Set Mappin & Webb 1932

Description

A stylish three piece silver tea set of round octagonal shape with alternating concave and convex curved walls and carved ebonised handle and knop. Reeded rims and feet and raised fluted shape to the upper surface of the spout. Hallmarked for London, makers Mappin & Webb, the teapot dated for 1930 and the sugar and creamer for 1932. All pieces also marked underneath with the retailer mark for Mappin & Webb.

The teapot measures 15.2 (6") high, 27cm (10 5/8") spout to handle and 14.7cm (5 1/2") wide. It has an easy capacity of 2 1/2 pints / 1.4l. The sugar measures 8.5cm (3 3/8") high, 10.8cm (4 1/4") wide and 16.5cm (6 1/2) across the handles. The cream jug is 9cm (3 1/2") high, 9cm (3 1/2") wide and 14.5cm (5 3/4") spout to handle. Total weight is 1023g/33ozt.

Condition is very good. There are a small number of really tiny light surface dints to one section of the teapot. No damage or repairs. The handle and knop are fine. Minor surface wear, a couple of small scratches to the the teapot and minor wear to the makers' initials on the cream and sugar. Nice and clean inside ready for use.
