Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced following the standardisation of the Uniform Penny Post in 1840, door-mounted letter plates became essential fixtures on British front doors. Combined letter box pulls emerged late in the 19th century to integrate post delivery with a sturdy handle for pulling heavy timber doors shut.

Authentic 19th-century door hardware was primarily sand-cast from solid brass, bronze, or cast iron. These pieces featured thick wall construction, hand-cut threads, and heavy mounting bolts designed to endure constant exposure to external weather elements.

Original pieces display significant weight relative to modern hollow reproductions, along with minor surface irregularities from hand-casting. Look for original threaded iron or brass bolts on the rear, hand-cut hexagonal or octagonal nuts, and natural oxidation in non-contact areas.

An antique letter box pull requires precise aperture measuring and drilling through a solid timber door. The long rear bolts pass entirely through the door leaf and are secured on the interior side with threaded brass nuts, ensuring a flush and structural mounting.

Unlacquered brass can be left untreated to develop a dark, aged patina over time through natural oxidation. Alternatively, periodic application of a specialized metal polish restores the bright reflective surface, followed by microcrystalline wax to slow tarnishing.
