Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency porter armchair typically features a high, enclosing back designed to shield the sitter from draughts, often upholstered in deep-buttoned leather with turned timber legs. Originally placed near hall entrances for hall porters, these chairs evolved into comfortable library and study seating during the nineteenth century.

Traditional construction relies on solid hardwood frames, such as oak or mahogany, fitted with hand-tied coil springs and natural stuffing like horsehair. The exterior features hand-patinated leather secured with individual brass upholstery studs and supported by turned legs on brass castors.

Authentic antique pieces feature hand-carved solid wood frame components, evidence of traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and brass castors often stamped by makers. The leather displays natural age-related craquelure and hand-applied studding rather than modern strip tacking.

Position the armchair as a focal point in a reading corner or study alongside a modern floor lamp and a minimalist side table. Combining rich, patinated leather with neutral wall colours or contemporary textiles creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the leather regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a specialist leather conditioner annually to prevent drying and cracking. Keep the armchair away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to preserve the natural finish and structural integrity of the hide.
