Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1850s.
To the casual eye the handle has a very attractive 'bow like' appearance, with swags and acanthus leaves to either side. However, look closely... The handle is formed of two prostrate cherubs (mermaids?) supported by an anchor between them. Beautiful!

The movement retains its original “duplex” lever escapement, which strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. The dial has Roman numerals with round dots for 5-minute markers, and it has blued steel 'Trefle' hands with bevelled glass. Signed to the dial, (bottom right and left) and stamped to the rear 'Lucien Paris'. Complete with key.
Dimensions: h: 8 inches (20.3cm) with handle 'up'. w: 5 inches (12.7 cm)
