17thc Old Master Oil Portrait Painting Att: Jacob Frans van der Merck c1610-1664
Brief Description:
We are delighted to offer to the market this stunning original mid-17th Century Dutch Old Master Oil Portrait Painting attributed to:
'Jacob Frans van der Merck' (c. 1610-1664).
Born in S-Gravendeel around 1610, Jacob Frans van der Merck worked in Delft, The Hague and Leiden, producing portraits, genre scenes, and still lifes, all of which were painted in the distinctive Old Master Flemish manner of the period.
The fabulous work portrays a half-length portrait of a seated rosy-complexioned white-haired Lady who is wearing dark clothing with a laced white-collar and ruched white sleeves, all set within a traditional, feigned oval.
Adorning the ladies black dress is an elaborate broach which is set with precious stones and freshwater pearls.
An originally attached label verso describes the sitter as 'A Lady Of Dordrecht', attributed to 'J. F. Van Der Merck'
Further attached is a very old restorers label which reads: "HERM. RITSCHL Maler - k.u.k. Restaurator, Heugasse 54, Wien, 4/2", "Restaurier Buch Nr. 4491''
This is a rare and unique opportunity to own a genuine period 17th Century Dutch Old Master Painting which is worthy of any fine art collection.
The artist is listed at auction with sales up to $87000 so this is a guaranteed investment piece.
