Description

A superb quality 19th Century Chinese carved hongmu twin pedestal desk, the top having a green leather writing surface with blind and gold tooling, with a lovely carved gadrooned edge, the frieze below consisting of various figure heads, dragon masks and floral carving, cupboards below with carved oval panels on the door fronts opening to reveal four drawers in each cupboard with original brass recessed handles, carved figures either side of each cupboard, the sides of the desk having the same carved decoration as the front and also having doors opening to reveal further compartment space, supported on a carved double plinth base with gadrooned edge. This desk in in excellent condition and having wonderful crisp carving. Circa 1860.
