Description

A rarely found Victorian biscuit box made from Parian with silver plated fittings dating to c.1880.

Parian ware is a type of biscuit porcelain imitating marble. It was developed around 1845 by the Staffordshire pottery manufacturer Mintons, and named after Paros, the Greek island renowned for its fine-textured, white Parian marble

Dating to the late Victorian era, c.1880, it remains in excellent condition. The handle spans 8" across (max).

The Parian base measures 7" x 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" tall to top of lid finial or 10" to top of handle while upright.
