Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The bentwood arms joined into the uprights of the back show an unusual array of spindles forming a gallery, almost in the design of tuning keys of a stringed instrument.

The very fine saddle seat is supported by finely turned legs and dual stretchers. The chair has got an old split in the seat with and old repair to strengthen the seat underneath, this however does not affect the chair at all, it is still very usable.

The chair has a number impressed under the seat but unfortunately there are no makers initials or names.
This is an interesting chair indeed, possibly musically related. The colour and patination is superb and the chair is in very good condition for its age and design.
