Description

Antique Rosewood Single Chain Fusee Library Clock Carved Front Shaped Dial.

This beautiful antique library clock has a fabulous rosewood case with a lovely rich colour. The top of the case is then shaped with a fabulous floral carving to the front. The case then has a moulding to the top which leads to the square case with carved front corners which set the case off beautifully. There is then a stepped moulding to the base which leads to four fantastic, shaped feet. The sides of the case then feature fantastic, bevelled glass panels, as well as a viewing window to the back door so that the movement can be fully seen. The front and back doors then have working locks and keys.

The dial is then silvered and shaped beautifully with a silvered “bevelled” surround set into the door. It is then set out in engraved, black Roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The rest of the dial is then intricately engraved with a fantastic, scrolling design. Finally the dial is signed to the bottom by the maker “BENNETT, 65, CHEAPSIDE LONDON.”.

The movement is then a single, chain fusee movement of the upmost quality which is complete with its regulating pendulum, winding key, and travel nut. It is ticking away as it should and keeping good time.

“Sir John Bennett FRAS (born, 15 October 1814 – died, 3 July 1897) was a watchmaker, a local politician and a flamboyant London personality. “

It measures approximately:
