Thomas Blinks 19th Century Oil on Canvas Painting Horse

19th century
Description

Thomas Blinks, A stunning commissioned oil painting on canvas of a beautiful Chestnut horse in a stable with a wonderful sky backdrop. The blanket n the straw does have three initials which may be of the stables or of the owner or even the horse. It does have the original oak frame.

Thomas Blinks was a self taught artist. He studied equine anatomy and the graceful musculature of horses during regular visits to Tattersalls, the leading auction house of racehorses and soon became sought after for his hunting subjects and paintings of dogs. His work was first seen in London at the Dudley Gallery in 1881, then at the Royal British Academy in 1882, and at the Royal Academy and Royal Institute of Oil Painters the following year.
