Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George I chairs, produced between 1714 and 1727, typically feature solid vase-shaped or baluster back splats, gentle serpentine cresting rails, and prominent cabriole legs. They often incorporate carved decoration such as scallops or shells on the knees and terminate in pad or webbed feet.

Early Georgian chairs were primarily crafted from dense Cuban mahogany or walnut, utilising hand-cut mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden dowels. The construction frequently included drop-in padded seats and turned H-stretchers to reinforce the leg frame.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-planing, irregular tool marks on unexposed undersides, natural shrinkage along timber grain, and dark oxidation in crevices. Original drop-in seat frames typically show hand-sawn timber rails and historic corner blocks.

These side chairs can be positioned symmetrically on either side of a contemporary console table or hallway credenza to create formal visual balance. Alternatively, they can serve as accent seating in a study or be paired with a clean-lined dining table to layer historical contrast.

Timber surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and polished annually with a quality beeswax paste. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, joint loosening, and finish fading.
