Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch marquetry furniture originated in the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries, renowned for intricate wood inlay techniques. Craftsmen used contrasting timber veneers to create detailed floral motifs, cornucopias, and urns across large cabinet doors and surfaces.

These pieces typically feature dense base woods such as walnut or mahogany, adorned with fine inlays of lighter fruitwoods, boxwood, or holly. The panels are assembled using traditional dovetail jointing, hand-cut veneers, and brass ironmongery.

Authentic antique Dutch marquetry displays hand-cut inlay lines with slight imperfections, natural shrinkage gaps in the timber, and hand-planed back panels. Look for original brass hardware, historical lock mechanisms, and uneven natural patination across contrasting veneers.

Position the armoire as a focal point against a neutral or rich wall colour to emphasise its detailed woodwork. Complement the piece with simplified modern seating and subtle brass lighting to create a balanced contrast between antique craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fluctuations in humidity to prevent timber movement or lifting veneers. Clean the surface with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
