Description

This must rank amongst the best of Ersary engsis I have not only seen during many years of dealing, but one of the very best I've had the pleasure to own - if only for a very short time, before it was literally snatched from my hands!!

Visually superb, with its symbolic cross dividing the field into the four gardens of Paradise and within each garden, eight squares containing the Turkmen 'tree' symbol. I love the colours overall but also in the two side columns with alternating mid and light indigo-blues, madder-red and golden yellow - stunning! The outer border has, what appears to be, arrow-heads, probably protecting the inner field from evil spirits.

Made around 1850 - could be slightly earlier - by Ersary Turkmen living in the middle Amu Darya region. Just superb and at least I can look at the photo and drool!
