N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The case starts at the top of which it is shaped, with mouldings to the sides, and a wonderful scrolling carving to the front. There is then a further moulding leading to the square body of the case which has carved columns to the front as well as carved leaf like detailing to the top left and ring of the door. The sides of the clock then each feature further carved panels with bevelled surrounds framed by more mouldings. Finally the base steps out again with further mouldings leading to four, thin, square feet.
The dial is then rounded to the top and is painted with a fantastic off white background. The dial is then set out in black roman numerals surrounded by a thin band marking out the minutes. The dial is then signed by the maker “Brockbank & Atkins London” and is numbered “12532”. Finally the dial is coved by glass set into the door as well as two beautifully shaped hands.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed via the back. The clock ticks away as it should and runs via a single, chain fusee movement. The movement is complete with its pendulum and winding key as well as its front and back door keys. The movement is then evgraved “Brockbank & Atkins London” and is numbered “12532” showing the movement quality and originality. The movement even comes complete with its original travel nut for when the clock is being moved.
It measures approximately:
12.75” / 32.5cm Tall.
9.5” / 24cm Wide.
6” / 15.25cm Deep.
