N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This wonderful antique bracket clock has a large oak case starting at the top with a shaped brass carry handle leading to four shaped brass mounts to the top of each corner as well as mounts to the corners of the mouldings. The body of the case is then profusely carved to the front and sides with floral designs.
There is then a further moulding to the bottom with the same pattern of brass mounts as the top leading to a final moulding, and four shaped brass feet.
The dial is then brass and set out in black Roman numerals with smaller Arabic numerals marking the minutes. The centre of the dial is then brass with a continuation of the sunburst design seen on the sides of the case. The dial then has a shaped brass surround as well as two lovely shaped hands. Finally the dial has a round, bevelled glass set into a brass door to protect the dial.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back and ticks away and chimes as it should. The movement strikes one ting tang on the quarter past, two on the half past, three on the quarter to and the number of hours on the hour via two gongs. The movement is then signed “W & H Sch” to show that it was made by the famous Winterhalder & Hofmeier. The clock comes complete with pendulum and winding key.
A beautiful and extremely rare example of a German clock by W&H that would look fantastic in any home or as part of a larger collection.
It measures approximately:
15” / 38cm Tall with the handle down.
9.25” / 23.5cm Wide.
7.75” / 19.5cm Deep.
