Antique Goverment Issue Grv Single Fusee Mahogany Clock Post Office

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Goverment Issue GRV Single Fusee Mahogany Clock Post Office.

This lovely antique single fusee mantel clock has a rectangular, mahogany case with mouldings to the top and bottom. The case then has four small square feet to each corner of the base. The case then has a hinged back door with its working lock and key as well as a small push button to the left which opens the front door.

The dial is then silvered and set out in black, engraved roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then has two lovely shaped hands and a bevelled, protective glass set into a brass bezel.

The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is ticking away as it should and comes complete with its pendulum and winding key. The movement is single fusee and of the upmost quality. The backplate of the movement, as well as the pendulum is then signed “GRV” showing the clock was a government issued piece and due to not having the signature to the dial is believed to have originally been issued to a post office.

It measures approximately:

- 12.5” / 32cm Tall.

- 8.75” / 22cm Wide.

- 5.25” / 13.5cm Deep.

Declaration

N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 1920s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
