N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This beautiful antique Lenzkirch mantel clock has a walnut case with a fantastic grand style.
There are then two square, reeded columns to each side, as well as the front each having brass capitols to the tops and bottoms. The sides then have shaped, floral brass panels backed with silk as well as the back door having wooden fretwork also backed in silk. Finally the bottom is shaped, leading into four shaped feet with shaped sections in between.
The dial is then brass and has a silvered chapter ring set out in black Roman numerals with smaller Arabic numerals marking the minutes. The dial then has a “pitted” effect to the centre as well as a large brass spandril to the top, and smaller ones to the bottom corners. The dial then has a small silvered “fast & slow” arch for regulation with a small finger. Finally the dial is finished with a lovely shaped pair of finger, and a bevelled glass set into the door.
The movement is then ticking away and chiming as it should via two gongs, and comes complete with pendulum and key. The clock strikes one ting tang on the quarter past, two on the half past, three on the quarter to, and the number on hours on the hour. The movement is then stamped “LENZKIRCH AUG”, “49”, “1 Million”, and “223989” to show that it was made by the famous Lenzkirch.
The clock also has its working lock and key for the front door.
