Antique Chain Fusee Mantel Clock Rococo Gilt Bronze Ormolu Case by Granges London

19th century
Description

Antique Chain Fusee Mantel Clock Rococo Gilt Bronze Ormolu Case Granges London.

This beautiful antique clock has a fabulous rococo style ormolu case made of gilt bronze. The case has a wonderful hour glass shape with exquisitely detailed, scrolling floral design. The case also features an array of textures with polished, brushed, and pitted surfaces which show off its quality and give the design much more depth. A truly beautiful example of the upmost quality and a very rare and hard to find design for a fusee time piece.

The dial is then gilt and set out in black, painted roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking out the minutes. The centre of the case then has a wonderfully detailed, engine turned pattern which gives it a fantastic look. The dial is also signed by the maker “DES GRANGES LONDON” to the top. Finally the dial has a wonderful patterned surround and is finished by two beautifully shaped hands.

The movement is then chain fusee and of the upmost quality. It is ticking away as it should and comes complete which its pendulum which can be fully regulated as well as its winding key. The movement also comes complete with its travel nut and is signed by the maker “Des Granges Cockspur St London” via a beautiful engraving showing the piece is totally original and the dial, case, and movement are all original to one another.

The maker is then listed in multiple antique Clockmaker reference books and is listed as follows “Des Granges, Peter, 33, Cockspur Street, 1820-1842”. This shows that the clock dates to between 1820-1842 as that is when Peter Des Granges worked out of his shop on Cockspur st London.

A truly fantastic and unique piece of the highest quality that would look fantastic in any home or as part of a larger collection.

It measures approximately:

- 13.75” / 35cm Tall.

- 9” / 23cm Wide.

- 5.5” / 14cm Deep.
