Description

We are delighted to offer this very unusual and rare find - a Georgian solid silver and rock crystal top snuff box made by London maker Charles Rawlings & William Summers in 1833.

Apparent upon first glance, the box presents an exceptional design and distinctive features starting with the top lid that is made from rock crystal and allows for a see-through top.

In addition to the crystal, the very fine and intricately crafted mounts support the lid whilst also allowing for further embellishments of chased floral motifs along the top and bottom edges of the box.

The entire box is very sleek and elegantly formed with curved sides. The base of the box is engine turned and the thumbpiece on the front features a square-cut striped agate stone.

The box is fully gilt in and presents a lovely antique gold tone/lustre which not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also allows for the layer of gold to protect the silver from reacting/tarnishing from the snuff inside.

The front side of the box has a hand-engraved message that reads "Catherine 4 May 1833).

The box is fully hallmarked on the lid and inside with English marks.

A fabulous piece of intricate Georgian silverware with a remarkable design, preserved in great condition throughout the years and ideal for uncompromising collections and showcase of unique English silverware. In the modern-day, snuff boxes may be used to hold other consumables of your choice such as mints/pills/small objects.

CONDITION

Great Condition - The snuff box is in great antique condition with little to no damage or issues considering its age. For accuracy, there are very slight marks on the glass towards the top right corner, however, nothing major and hardly noticeable.
