Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Orientalist sculpture emerged in Western Europe during the 19th century, driven by an interest in North African, Middle Eastern, and Ottoman cultures. Sculptors focused on detailed depictions of traditional dress, headwear, and ornate jewellery, capturing portraiture through a romanticised Western lens.

Sculptors primarily worked with natural white marble, alabaster, bronze, and terracotta. High-end pieces often utilized fine Italian Carrara marble, hand-carved using chisels and rasps before being polished with fine abrasives to produce smooth skin tones and detailed textiles.

Authentic period marble pieces typically feature subtle hand-tool marks in less visible areas, natural stone veining, and uneven surface patination from age and handling. Later reproductions often show precise machine tooling, uniform resin textures, or synthetic mould seams.

Sculptural busts serve as focal points when arranged symmetrically on a dark wood sideboard, marble mantelpiece, or inside architectural alcoves. Pairing antique stone pieces against clean minimalist walls or modern art creates an engaging juxtaposition of textures and eras.

Marble should be dusted regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid acidic or abrasive commercial cleaners, as they etch the calcium surface; mild, pH-neutral soap diluted in distilled water should be used sparingly for surface marks.
