19th century
Description

A superb top quality, beautifully constructed, useful antique! For the man or woman who has everything! This late 19th century oak combination dentist’s cabinet is a truly amazing piece of furniture & would make the perfect bathroom or dressing room cabinet or retail shop fitting. It is very unlikely you will see anything similar available for sale, in fact the last one of these that we know of for sale some time ago in the States was sold for $9,000. The cabinet has been designed to maximise the storage potential for the area that it occupies. The top of the cabinet has rectangular mirror and small shelf. The central section is formed of a bureau with drop down front, a panelled door which opens to an interior with a selection of trays that are mounted on a pole and can move independently and would have previously contained dentists’ tools. The base section is formed of seven small and one large drawer and further group of six trays that are mounted to a pole. The cabinet is finished throughout with fretwork detail, applied carved decoration and quality brass fittings. This is an extremely unusual piece and represents a rare opportunity. Make it yours today.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the late nineteenth century, combination dentist cabinets were specialised storage units designed to house dental instruments, medicaments, and tools within organised compartments, swing-out drawers, and tambour sections.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring brass hardware, velvet or glass-lined drawers, and occasionally mirrored upper galleries.

Authentic examples feature specialised internal configurations such as shallow swing-out tool trays, fitted drawer dividers, roll-top tambour doors, and original brass locks or pulls.

These versatile cabinets function effectively as focal storage pieces in a home office, hallway, or living space to organise small collectibles, stationery, or craft supplies.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish, avoiding silicone sprays and direct heat sources.
