A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain from the early 20th century made up of solid sterling silver figaro links which have been gilded in 18ct yellow gold. It’s complete with a T-Bar and an extension of chain at the bottom where a medallion may have been attached. Albert chains were named after Prince Albert and were used by wealthy Victorian gentlemen to secure a pocket watch by attaching it via the T-bar to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today though, they have taken on a new function and commonly worn as a women’s statement necklace. It’s a good solid chain and weighs 62.8 grams in total. It’s fitted with two claw clasps at the end and is complete with the maker’s initials and Birmingham hallmarks dating it to 1918.
