A rare Jacob Cartwright safe in a stunning fully restored working condition.
This fantastic quality and very secure safe is truly a museum piece and has had no expense spared in its restoration. This safe is truly a one off bespoke item and has had many hours spent on its full refurbishment process. To the buyer pictures throughout its thorough restoration are available upon request.
This lovely safe features original specification paintwork featuring 2 tone paintwork to exactly match the original colours and design. The safe is finished in predominantly burgundy with a black door frame, dovetailed strengthening braces and centre door artwork. The paintwork is single stage paint (not lacquered) exactly as it would have been originally. The safe is complemented by the ornate traditionally hand-painted red coach lines which elegantly frames the door hinges and strengthening braces. This safe has been fully restored from bare metal, having been stripped and linished to ensure the highest quality refurbishment possible. The inside has been painted with colours that exactly match the original and the lovely original brasswork has then been highly polished.
This safe features its manufacturer's polished brass plaque of 'J CARTWRIGHT & SON MAKERS ESTABLISHED 1844 TRADE MARK WEST BROMWICH'. The amazing solid brass handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external heavy duty warded 6 lever lock is working smoothly with 2 keys and for added security the safe will only let you take the key out when it is locked. The brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely slide up lid with the words 'J. Cartwright & Son Established 1844 Roebuck street West Bromwich Phoenix Safe Works' cast into the lid which elegantly covers the keyhole when not in use.
The inside of the safe has been re painted to exactly match the original, complete with red embellishments. This safe unusually is complete with its original testimonial from 1886 on the back of the door and is in fantastic readable condition proving the providence of its fire resisting feature and is an interesting read. The safe also has a centre division and 1 internal secure locking drawer with the original polished brass handle and working brass lock with 2 keys. The drawer also has a burgundy painted front which mimics the exterior of the safe.
Inside the safe we have also added burgundy full grain leather removable liners to keep your valuables and the safe itself protected from scratches or damage when items are stored inside.
This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.
Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there. However, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being Antique.
