A large and dramatic lidded container, looking like a large chess piece of unusual turned form with a flared skirt below a bulbous central body rising to a pierced and castellated lid of Gothic form. Turned in pleasant honey coloured cherrywood. Though internally showing little sign of use. Late 19th century, Continental.
