James Cohen Antique Carpets has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Sadly had at least one main border cut off, these flat weaves are popular with collectors around the world and can fetch very large sums of money at specialist auctions. Decorated with bird and animal motifs, embroidered on to a fine kilim ground they are real works of art. Despite the damage inflicted, this piece still has tremendous visual appeal and charm, making a very effective wall hanging. Great conversation piece and something you will not grow tired of looking at. In good condition it might fetch £10-15,000 at a specialist auction.
