81 X 153cm Collectable Verneh Fragment

19th century
Description

Not a decorative carpet but a rare 'Verneh' or Caucasian cover from the mid 19th century. Used to cover bedding during the day or to decorate the divan, this multi purpose item was also a display of the weaving talents within the family. Sadly had at least one main border cut off, these flat weaves are popular with collectors around the world and can fetch very large sums of money at specialist auctions. Decorated with bird and animal motifs, embroidered on to a fine kilim ground they are real works of art. Despite the damage inflicted, this piece still has tremendous visual appeal and charm, making a very effective wall hanging. Great conversation piece and something you will not grow tired of looking at. In good condition it might fetch £10-15,000 at a specialist auction.

Price includes 20% VAT and can be reduced by that amount for export

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
