Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 1940s.

He was a founder member of the Nervia group . From 1924 to 1928 he was a decorator in Paris and produced frescoes for the Universal Exhibition in Brussels (1935). He was then a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Mons from 1929 to 1946 as well as at La Cambre in Brussels .

He was elected member of the Royal Academy of Belgium in January 1960, after having been elected corresponding member in 1957
He was influenced by Anto Carte and had admiration for the Tuscan Renaissance which led him to stylise his compositions. He then returned to more traditional painting and brought back from a trip to Congo decorative works favouring the purity of lines.
He is listed in the dictionary of Belgium painters and is well listed at auction.
