A George II tea table is a piece of English furniture produced during the reign of King George II, roughly between 1727 and 1760. These tables were designed specifically for the formal ritual of serving tea and typically featured fold-over tops and slender cabriole legs.

Georgian tea tables were predominantly crafted from solid walnut, burr walnut veneers, or dense mahogany. Construction methods relied on hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary woods, and brass ironmongery for hinges.

Authentic pieces display period-correct construction markers such as hand-sawn timber marks, original brass butt hinges, gate-leg or swing-leg support mechanisms, and natural oxidation on the underside. The legs typically terminate in pad, club, or ball-and-claw feet standard for the mid-18th century.

A fold-over tea table functions well as a compact entryway console or hallway table when closed. When opened, it can serve as a side table adjacent to contemporary seating or double as a small display surface for ceramics and table lamps.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and areas with high humidity fluctuations to prevent the walnut from warping or splitting.
