Spode ‘Caramanian’ series meat plate, ‘Castle of Boudron’, c. 1815.

A fine Spode transfer printed large meat dish, c. 1815. Printed in underglaze blue with ‘The Castle of Boudron in the Gulf of Stancio’ after an engraving taken from a drawing by Luigi Mayer.

Within a border from the ‘Indian Sporting’ series, of rhino, oxon, and equestrian scenes.

Printed and impressed factory marks to the reverse.

The scene is taken from a series of engravings, after Luigi Mayer, ‘Views in the Ottoman Dominions, in Europe in Asia, and some of the Mediterranean Islands’, from the Original Drawings taken for Sir Robert Ainslie by Luigi Mayer, P. Bowyer, 1810.

Medium: Earthenware

Width: 47.3 cm, 18 5/8”.

Depth: 36 cm, 14 1/8”.

Condition: Typical light crazing, and minor scratches. No damage. No restoration.
