one side in boxwood the other side in ebony, in a 19th century mahogany box with a sliding lid, the interior lined in green baize

Nice example of an original antique St George Chess Set. The St George Pattern was a standard pattern used in the Victorian period, and especially before the introduction of the Staunton pattern in 1849. It is similar in style to the so-called 'Old English’ pattern.
