Francis Moltino (1818–1874) was an Italian painter, resident in London, who specialised in landscapes and coastal scenes.

His work is similar to that of Turner in style, but with an air of southern Europe. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1848 and 1855. He was resident in Covent Garden and then Pimlico in London from the mid 1840s. In later life he returned to Italy and painted in Venice, where he might originally have come from.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century British maritime oil paintings typically depict commercial riverways, coastal trade, and naval vessels, capturing atmospheric light and industrial expansion during the Victorian era.

These works were executed using oil pigments on stretched canvas or timber panels, housed within hand-carved wood and composition frames finished with gold leaf spandrels.

Authentic period paintings exhibit natural craquelure, age-appropriate canvas oxidisation on the reverse, original framer marks or signatures, and gilded timber frames with age wear.

Position a matching pair side-by-side above a sideboard or console table to establish visual symmetry, contrasting classic gilded frames against clean, neutral modern walls.

Position artworks away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and radiators, dusting the surfaces gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush without water or chemical solvents.
