Magnificent Antique English Meat or Food Domed Cover C.1880

Description

We are always on the lookout for really superb quality meat or food covers like this magnificent example, but we only come across them very rarely.

The decoration is a combination of raised repousse work and intricate floral and foliate engraving. The handle to the top is very ornate with the handle being almost heart shaped.

There is a large cartouche to both front and back engraved with a very regal looking armorial crest in the form of a Griffin.

A wonderful and imposing piece in excellent condition (minor plate loss to small high spots, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy), measuring 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 10" tall.
