Stunning French Ormolu Mantel Clock by Henry Marc C1860

19th century
Description

Beautiful French gilt bronze ormolu figural Clock c1860

~~ In stunning condition throughout ~~

This is a fabulous French figural clock by the premier makers Henry Marc and Japy Freres dated to around 1860.

It has the most stunning gilt case which made of true fire gilt ormolu bronze and is not gilt base metal as most of these clocks tend to be.

It is ornately decorated with a sculpture of a milk maid by an open gate, the attention to detail and quality is incredible with a cat lapping up the last remnents of milk from a bowl and a basket of fruit. There are swags of leaves and berries and floral motifs around the dial and alabaster panels.

The gilding and chasing is second to none, very bright and crisp and in exceptional condition.

It stands on its original ebonised plinth and the clock itself has porcelain feet to protect the actual clock.

The original enamel dial is perfect with no chips, cracks or crazing and is fully marked HRY MARC PARIS.

The beautiful French movement is of very high quality with an outside countwheel and Brocot fine adjustment, as you would expect it is fully marked with the Japy Freres gold medal winning stamp. It runs for a full 8 days and keeps excellent time.

It comes with its original numbered pendulum and both original keys.

The movement is in excellent clean and running condition having just been fully serviced by Alan Williams FBHI of Plymouth Clocks who is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute and comes with a 12 month warrenty.

A stunningly beautiful clock in exceptional condition which will give great pleasure for many years to come.

It strikes on the hour and half hour on a small bell.

This clock has obviously been highly prized and looked after over the last 150 years and is a credit to its previous owners.

Dimensions of clock: Height 16" Width is 16" Depth 7.5" and the dimeter of the dial is 3.5".

For further information and more detailed photographs especially of the movement please contact Andrew and Lynn Wilson of Fowey River Antiques, Cornwall on 01726 813155
