Description

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, circa 1900.
A hand-carved wooden coconut grating stool depicting a reptilian monster or crocodile.
Carved with raised diamond eyes, bared teeth and ribbed neck, the four stylized legs with rope decoration form the stool.
The top set with studs, a square hole in the mouth would have held the steel grater blade.
Finely grained hardwood with good aged patinated surface.
A refined work of culinary art from Southeast Asia, traditionally used in the preparation of curries and desserts.
In excellent sound condition throughout.
Length 17,3/8" or 440mm
Height 2,1/2" or 66mm
Weight 427grams.
