Magnificent Antique Gilt & Jewelled Photograph Frame C.1880

Description

An exceptional and most unusual Austrian or French gilded photograph frame with a door to the front, without doubt the best example I have had with an all-over raised foliate pattern under the gilt.

The door or window to the front opens with a little quality catch opening up to the glazed aperture ready to accept a photograph measuring 5 1/2" x 3 7/8".

The detail is amazing with rolled ribbon corners , art nouveau style corners to the door and a large flower mount to the centre. All of this top-notch work is decorated with cabochon "gems" in deep ruby and turquoise.

A splendid piece in superb condition measuring 8 1/4" x 6".
