George III Mahogany Secretaire Bureau Bookcase C.1800

Description

Splendid late Georgian mahogany secretaire or bureau bookcase c.1800. Glazed bookcase top with three shelves (depth 9½") which can be positioned as required in the grooved sides. Over a superb secretaire bureau base, the drawer front folding open to reveal a fine fitted interior with a sliding and hinged leather top writing slope, pigeon holes and fourteen small stationery drawers. Large two door cupboard below the desk with two useful drawers inside. A particularly good looking example of the form with a gracefully shaped swan neck pediment, crisply moulded with inlaid marquetry terminals and a gilded finial over a dental frieze. Crossbanded mahogany doors with slim astragal moulded glazing bars. Crossbanded drawer and door fronts with solid mahogany panels. Raised on tall bracket feet front and rear. Solid mahogany sides to the top and base. mahogany drawer linings. Superb condition with original brass handles, hinges, latches and locks etc. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops, keys supplied.
