Description

This unusual and exquisite "butterfly wing" silver mounted cut glass scent bottle is dated Birmingham 1924. The screw-top silver lid with a glazed top encasing an iridescent butterfly wing decoration cabochon. Butterfly wing jewellery was popular in the Art Deco period and it involved using real butterfly wings (usually from the South American Morpho butterfly) to create rich blue accents. The square glass body sliced-cut in diamond patterns. The neck with original glass stopper.

G.W.A for G W Aldridge

Birmingham Assay Mark.

Lion passant.

Date letter "z" for 1924.

Condition:

Some damage to the screw-top part lid, creases, signs of possible repair. This is reflected in the price.

Butterfly cabochon in very good condition.

Glass in perfect condition. No chips or cracks.

Dimensions:

Height: 8cm / 3 inches.

Base : 4cm x 4cm / 1.4 inches x 1.4 inches.
