In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 1900s.
There is an inset maker's plaque in the fall front for "Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove Ltd". The bottom section has two doors which open out to reveal a further large sliding tray. There are working keys for both top and bottom sections.

Both pieces are strapped all the way around and are nicely finished on the back, sides and top so it makes the piece quite versatile as it could be used in two separate pieces as well as together.
The interior trays, although they have been very well made, are later additions to the piece so have either replaced others or the chests were originally empty inside and have been later adapted.

It is in very good condition for its age and the pine has mellowed to a lovely rich colour with a nice aged patina. There are of course signs of age and use, some small knocks, chips and surface marks but nothing untoward or detrimental and the interior is clean and tidy. The bun feet are later replacements but suit the piece well.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
