In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.

Inside, the lid of the box is lined in maroon leather with a gilt tooled edge and it folds down to reveal a document holder behind. The box folds out to reveal a large writing surface with a deep red covering with tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell, a pen tray and a small lidded compartment. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small drawers which springs open when a piece of wood on the far side of the box is pushed. There is also a long drawer on the side of the box which pulls out when a brass pin is lifted.

It still has it's original paper manufacturer's label which reads "Isaac Samuel. Manufacturer. No.25 Nicholas Lane. Lombard Street. London"
It is in excellent original condition and displays beautifully. It comes with a working key and there are no major damages to the wood exterior, just some small knocks and minor signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The patination is beautiful and the whole box is excellent quality.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
