A fine late 19th century Sheraton revival freestanding inlaid kidney-shaped writing desk. Unusually decorated in walnut parquetry throughout with rosewood cross banding and boxwood stringing and having fine foliate marquetry inlay in exotic local and imported timbers to all drawers and panels with very good pen work. Each pedestal has 4 bow fronted and graduated drawers with brass pulls and working locks with keys. The conforming concave centre drawer with brass lock stamped J.T.Needs, 100 New Bond Street, London. & Late J.Bramah, 186 Piccadilly. With Impressed crown ( the lock dates the desk between 1887 to 1904).
