Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian jewellery, originating between 1901 and 1915, is characterised by delicate metalwork, lace-like filigree, and intricate garland or botanical motifs. The era saw the widespread introduction of platinum, allowing jewellers to create lightweight yet durable settings that emphasised stone brilliance.

Edwardian pieces predominantly utilised platinum, often bonded to 18ct yellow or white gold, alongside natural diamonds and pearls. The strength of platinum permitted fine milgrain detailing and delicate pierced openwork impossible in softer precious metals.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut diamonds such as Old European or Mine cuts, micro-milgrain edges, and complex hand-pierced openwork. Hallmarks, metal purity stamps, and evidence of historical stone-cutting techniques assist in verifying authenticity.

An antique trilogy or dress ring serves as a statement focus piece alongside modern tailored wear or casual attire. It blends effectively with modern minimalist jewellery or layered with simple precious metal bands.

Clean platinum and diamond settings using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush. Store pieces individually in fabric-lined boxes to prevent diamonds from scratching adjacent jewellery and arrange periodic professional inspection of claws and settings.
