Hobson May Collection has dated this piece to the 1910s.
The layers build up over the course of many years, making the shells very heavy and difficult to date precisely. This antique clam shell came from a private collection.
It is in good condition and the two halves sit well together forming the complete shell. There are very minor nibbles to the edge, these are minor and do not detract from the decorative qualities of the shell. The inside of the shell is lovely and smooth and a good white colour.
An interesting, unusual and decorative object.
