A wonderful and generously sized woolwork tapestry of a peregrine falcon among flowers and foliage, signed ‘Margaret Rhodes Work’, and also signed in ink to remains of the original paper on the back ‘Mrs Rhodes, Bleasdale’ in a period unglazed rosewood veneered frame with gilt slip. A lovely piece of country house decoration, dating to around 1840.
Another remaining piece of paper on the back possibly reads ‘Whittam Corn 1’.
Condition:
The tapestry itself is in excellent condition with only slight loss of vibrancy in the colours commensurate with age. No signs of any moth damage or staining. The frame is in good tidy condition with a couple of areas of slight veneer lifting if you look hard enough.
Dimensions (including frame):
84 cm high x 72.5 cm wide x 4 cm deep
