Description

Good quality set of 10 mid 19th.c. mahogany dining chairs by James Reilly of Manchester c.1870. Sturdy solid mahogany frames with shaped backrests featuring carved and moulded top rails forming a double arch over a baluster silhouette centre splat carved with the same simple scroll detail. Loose seat pads over moulded side rails, curved at the front, and raised on tapering turned and reeded legs. Rear legs joined to the side rails with metal bolts, an improvement in chair manufacture patented by Reilly in the early 1860’s. Clear maker’s stamp on the underside. Excellent colour and condition with clean and serviceable covers. Frames have been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
