Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.
To the centre of the lid, there is a iridescent tablet of Mother of Pearl shell surrounded by Tulipwood cross-banding and various stringing inlays. This is also the case for the escutcheon to the front of the box.

The box has been professionally relined with a hand marbled paper to create a fresh and very usable interior. Complete with working key, the box remains in superb condition with a beautifully French Polished patina. 10" x 7" x 5" tall.
