Description

A really superb example of an English Victorian box, perfect for Jewellery, the desk-top or just to admire made from rich cognac coloured Burl Walnut and dating to around 1850.

What makes this one stand out is the very unusual pattern created by the parquetry inlay, very fine and highly decorative. To the centre of the lid, there is a iridescent tablet of Mother of Pearl shell surrounded by Tulipwood cross-banding and various stringing inlays. This is also the case for the escutcheon to the front of the box.

The box has been professionally relined with a hand marbled paper to create a fresh and very usable interior. Complete with working key, the box remains in superb condition with a beautifully French Polished patina. 10" x 7" x 5" tall.
