Poirot Art Deco has dated this piece to the 1930s.
Neighbourhood children often posed for Chiparus, at his atelier in the Barrault, Paris. It is recorded, ‘they were the least expensive models of all, content with a few sweets’.
These were early works before he developed his dazzling sculptures of young dancers, which were to become his trademark.
Poirot Art Deco has dated this piece to the 1930s.
