An absolutely beautiful example of a 19th century burr walnut library bookcase. This exquisite piece - of small to medium proportions - measures only 71.5cms (28¼'') across the carcass and is only 78cms (30¾'') across the cornice, meaning that it is more likely to fit into a narrow recess; for example, to one side of a chimney breast. The top two doors, retaining their original glass panels with a stunning wavy appearance, open to reveal a bookcase interior with three adjustable-height mahogany-lipped shelves. The bottom two doors open to reveal a general-purpose storage interior with a single solid-oak height-adjustable shelf. Supplied with keys and locks in perfect working order. It has its original finish with a rich, warm, glowing colour and patination. This fine bookcase is English, and it dates from c.1850 to c.1875.
